Recycled Bicycle Inner Tube Feather Earrings

January 15th, 2018

I recently found these amazing earrings made from recycled bicycle inner tube from several Etsy sellers and you know that every time I see something interesting I always need to try them on my own. This time I have a particular advantage because my father is a cyclist so I can find tons of  this inner tube ready for thousands of different projects!

What you need for this project is a used (or a new) bicycle inner tube, a pair of good scissors and a pair of clips for your earrings. Of course you have to be good at cutting but this is more or less everything you need. If you want to start with a easier shape that’s good, you can make every shape you want, a leaf, a heart, a geometric figure! Inner tube are quite long and with just one of them you can make 7/8 pair of these so don’t blame yourself if you don’t get results at the first attempt.

At the beginning just cut an 8 cm long peace of inner tube and then open it up and wash it very gently. The hardest part of the project is that the rubber of the inner tube remain folded so you have to cut it with more attention. Luckily feather are not regular so you don’t have to be too much precise, just pay attention to make clean cutting.

Start cutting from the bottom, after several attempts I found that is the best strategy and follow the pattern in the picture. At first on one side then on the other one. Probably your first feather will be strange or crooked but you will get better with time. Once your feather are completed, just put the clips. The rubber is easy to pierce!

There are some many different shape that you can do, If you make a search on Pinterest you can find beautiful ideas, maybe even easier than this, that could fit better your first attempt, see here some inspiration:

The Perfect Black Necklace

November 29th, 2016

In this last few days I have experimented a little bit with polymer clay. I really like the simplicity of this shape i made, and i like to share this easy project with you. What you need is simply a pack of black polymer clay and a wood stick, I used one of take away sushi 🙂

I used the entire black pack, I rolled it in my hands to make it softer and then I created a strip as you see in the picture.
I put the stick over the clay and I started rolling. In this way the clay rolled over the stick as a big skewer. I did that until the clay joined itself completely. Once done, I cut of the border with a knife and I removed the stick from inside the clay. It left a hole where the string will pass through.

I bent it and put it into the hot oven (120 degrees) for about 30 minutes. Once cooled I inserted the string and closed it with 2 lovely hearts. I really love to bring this necklace short but long too so, I did not cut the string, I just closed it with a bow.

This project is quite easy, and can be done in several colors. Also mixing some beads could be interesting. In case you want to buy it It is available on my etsy shop.

Polymer Clay 3 Beads Necklace

November 22nd, 2016

This necklace is a very easy do it yourself that can be arranged in several different ways. First thing first you can make it with all your favorite colors, maybe choosing them to fit a particular dress of yours. it’s up to you!

What you will need is 2 packs of polymer clay of your favorite colors, I choose blue and white. Once you have chosen the color of the biggest bead you have to divide the clay in 3 pack, one with 5 strip and a half, one with half strip and one with 2 strips, then take the other polymer clay and take 2 strips and half strips. So you will have: for the biggest ball 5 strips and a half of white, the second bead has 2 strips of white and half of blue, the third one has 2 of blue and half of white. Mix them all together and form 3 beads.

Drill all beads carefully with a stick and put in oven at 120 degress for about 20 minutes. leave them in the oven until they are cold. To help me I put the stick up on 2 glasses, in this way your beads will hang up without damages.
Another suggestion: in case you choose, like me, the white color, do it as your first, otherwise you will risk to get it dirty with the other darker colors.

Once cold, I choose to put these beads on a very thin blue leather string and I think it came out fantastic. I made several others that you can find on my Etsy shop. This is a perfect present for your friends for Christmas! I’m sure they will love it!
